Find Your Spot

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

So my dad is always bugging me to try this site called Find Your Spot. You have to answer a lot of questions, but once you get them done, you’ll get a list of US cities (wish it also included Canadian cities as well!) that will be listed in order based on your answers to the questions. I think I counted about 150 questions in total, and having to give them some personal information about yourself, will put you on the fast track to getting your own list. I thought I would share my list with you:

  • Norfolk, Virgina
  • Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Chesapeake-Virginia beach, Virginia
  • Seattle, Washington
  • Baltimore, Maryland
  • Portland, Oregon
  • Long Island, New York
  • Hampton, Virginia
  • Greenville, North Carolina
  • Rocky Mount-Stony creek, North Carolina
  • Providence, Rhode Island
  • New York City, New York
  • Eugene, Oregon
  • Corvallis, Oregon
  • New Haven, Connecticut
  • Bellingham, Washington
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Durham, North Carolina
  • Chapel Hill, North Carolina
  • Bergen-Passaic, New Jersey
  • Olympia, Washington
  • Boston, Massachusetts
  • Manhattan, New York

Out of my list, I could see myself living in some of them.  Some of them though I don’t think I would be able to find good tech jobs to keep my interest in technology going.  I’ve always tried to think about my life without being involved with technology, but it’s too hard to do that.  I’m also not saying that I’m looking for a new place to live, although that has crossed my mind.  I think that this list does give me some good ideas of other places I could look for work if something were to ever happen to me here in Michigan.

If you happen to take this quiz yourself, please feel free to share them with us!

    Tumblr vs. Blog?

    Sunday, May 27th, 2007

So I was listening to Net@Nite the other day and decided that I could post to 1 place and have it actually go out to various places.  I think what I might start doing is either posting here or through something and then have a lot of different places get updated.  Currently I have a Twitter, Blog, Jaiku, and Tumblr accounts.  So what I’d like is to have one place to work that will update these.  This place I’d like to have is something that would work with all of these places. I’m currently testing egorcast to see if this is something that will help me with some of these.  Hopefully it will work correctly! :) We’ll see though.

I know this is my second post today, however, I wanted to test some stuff because I’ve set up my Tumblr account to except my Blog posts so that I’m not having to double post.  Now the nice thing I like about Tumblr is that I can create real short posts about a video, picture, quote, IM, etc and it’s super simple! What I find a little harder with a blog is that I am always having to check comments, making the posts look nice and “professional,” which by the way, I don’t think these are going to continue looking professional, as this blog is really something about my technology experience.  That being said I think that what this blog will end up as is a lot of my frustrations, videos, tutorials, etc.

    Tumblr and Twitter!

    Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

I had a friend email me a couple of cool sites the past few days and wanted to share them with you. First off is Twitter. Twitter is a social networking service that allows members to inform each other about what they are doing and what they think. It allows users to send message via phone, IM, or the twitter website. Users can receive updates from other selected users via web, IM, or SMS. Here’s my twitter URL. Feel free to add me if you have an account or create one!

My next site I wanted to share with you is Tumblr. Tumblr is like blogging, but a variation of it. It favors short-form, mixed-media posts over the longer editorial posts frequently associated with blogging. Common posts formats found on tumblr include links, photos, quotes, dialogues, and video.  Unlike blogs, this format is frequently used to share the author’s creations, discoveries, or experiences without providing commentary. You can visit my tumblr here.

I have an update with my WordPress tutorails I wanted to mention as well.  I promised in my last post that they were done, however, they have not been posted yet.  That’s because I had trouble getting them to my hosting service.  I was going to use DreamHost, which is my hosting provider, but I have decided to use Screencast.com which is a hosting service from TechSmith Corporation, the makers of Camtasia Studio, which is what I used to create these tutorials.  So I will be creating links to these here very quickly.
